General Hoar USMC (Ret) Endorses Democratic Assembly Candidate Masry

September 17th, 2008 · 1 Comment

General Joseph P. Hoar, USMC (Ret) gave his strong endorsement to Ferial
Masry, the Democratic candidate for the 37th Assembly District at a fundraiser
held on Saturday, September 13th in Camarillo. Speaking before an enthusiastic
crowd of over 100 supporters of Masry, the General urged them to work for a
Democratic victory on November 4th.

The four-star general reminded the audience of how most of the major social
legislation, such as Social Security, Medicare, the Civil Rights Act and the Voting
Rights Act were passed by Democratic Administrations. A prominent critic of the
Iraq War, the former Commander-in-Chief of U.S. Central Command stated that
“Ferial will be a strong supporter of veterans’ rights in the California Assembly,
especially for veterans who sustained injuries in the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan”, said Hoar.

General Hoar, who is a California resident and a member of the Democratic
National Committee is the honorary co-chair of “Veterans for Ferial Mary”. The
group includes veterans from World War II through the current wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan. The other honorary co-chair is Governor Michael Dukakis, the
Democratic Party’s nominee for President in 1988.

Also speaking at the event was Eric Bauman, the chair of the Los Angeles
County Democratic Party. Part of the 37th Assembly District is in Los Angeles
County. Bauman emphasized that Masry’s campaign has been declared as one
of the seven critical Assembly races in the state by the authoritative “California
Target Book” and how important this race is for the future of California.

Bob Handy, Director of the Democratic party’s District 10 was the Master of
Ceremonies. Handy is also the Chair of “Veterans United for Truth”, a nationwide
organization, that has gained international prominence in its lawsuit against the
Veterans Administration for its inadequate treatment of veterans who have
sustained injuries in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. “Because Ferial’s son has
served with the U.S. Army in Iraq, she has a good understanding of the needs of
our troops who have served us so well in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Handy.

The event was held at a private residence in Camarillo and also featured live
music from several groups, including a song that was written specifically for
Masry. “I am so grateful for all the wonderful support that I am receiving and
look forward of championing the needs of our district and state in the Assembly”
said the candidate. Mediterranean and Persian food was served with beautifully
displayed and donated dessert trays. A jazz trio played and a special written
song was dedicated to Ferial.

Well this is good news because I didn’t know much about Ferial Masry. I had a phone message asking me if I would vote for a Muslim for public office. I was surprised and it reminded me of how sleezy the Strickland machine is in Ventura County. This is just another outrageous and shameful thing the Strickland campaign is doing to fool voters. Shame on you Tony. Shame on you Audra.
